A Group of Soldiers Refuse to Return to Their Permanent Bases Under Parental Pressure: MoD

On February 23, an incident occurred at the Armenian Ministry of Defense's N military unit, during which a group of soldiers' parents and relatives attempted to obstruct the return of conscript soldiers who had been granted leave back to their units.

According to the MoD press service, disturbances took place in the area of the military unit, during which some soldiers, influenced by their parents gathered outside, refused to return to their permanent bases. Additionally, a few took advantage of the situation to leave the military premises voluntarily.

Efforts are currently underway to locate these individuals. In light of the events, the command of the military unit has initiated an internal investigation, and the military police are preparing materials regarding the soldiers who left voluntarily for potential criminal proceedings.

The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia firmly condemns the situation and urges citizens to refrain from instigating similar actions, especially under the conditions of martial law and the ongoing phases of state wartime recovery and reorganization, which clearly disrupt the functioning of the Armed Forces and jeopardize the state’s security during this critical period.

It is imperative to note that in all such instances where violations of the law occur, appropriate measures will be taken to provide legal assessments of those actions,” the MoD statement said.
