Armenia Will Ensure the Security of Transport Communication from Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan: Vagharshak Harutyunyan
Armenia will be able to ensure the security of transport communication from Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan via Armenian territory. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Armenia, Vagharshak Harutyunyan, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“First of all, I would like to immediately point out that the use of the term ‘corridor’ is incorrect when it comes to the transport links between the western regions of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic,” said Harutyunyan.
According to him, based on the trilateral statement of the leaders of Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan, dated November 9, 2020, only Lachin serves as a corridor that ensures the connection of Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia; in all other cases, the discussion is only about transport communications.
“In response to the question posed, I can say that Armenia will ensure compliance with the security requirements of the aforementioned transport communication in line with its obligations. The question of involving the military in its protection is not on the agenda at this time, and control over transport communications, according to the trilateral statement, is entrusted to the bodies of the Russian Federal Security Service's border service,” the minister said.
