Diverse Opinions Should Be Discussed Within the Party, Melkumyan on Gevorg Petrosyan
My colleagues decide their actions themselves; everyone makes their own decisions. I have not spoken to Gevorg Petrosyan since then. This was noted by MP Mikael Melkumyan of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) during a conversation with journalists in the National Assembly, commenting on fellow party member Gevorg Petrosyan's announcement that he is leaving the faction.
“Before that, there wasn’t any discussion of that type; I didn’t even feel that such a step would be taken. He has given explanations and clarifications regarding what this is based on, and our leader, on our part, has shown universal respect for Gevorg Petrosyan,” he said.
In response to the observation that Gevorg Petrosyan stated that the lack of timely and clear political assessments by the BHK regarding current events is also a reason for his decision, Melkumyan said, “A party is a party where the institute of collective thought, collective analysis, and thought modeling operates. It’s not that every individual MP makes a decision independently and says, ‘I see it this way.’ Various opinions may exist, which should be discussed within the party. The party decides to represent its vector. This does not mean that every individual cannot express their personal opinion, but in terms of the vector, the party decides.”
Regarding decisiveness, he noted that politics is the art of the possible, and one must make such calculations and actions that see the next 3-4 steps in a way that is beneficial for the state, the people, and the party's image—without opposing one another. Thus, one must be able to align the interests of the state and the people correctly with the party’s rating. Your decisiveness should not remain at a theoretical level.
