Dakhataxutyun Proposes Criminalization of Insulting and Defaming Authorities, Says Daniel Ioannisyan
Daniel Ioannisyan wrote on his Facebook page: “Dakhataxutyun proposes to criminalize insulting and defaming public authorities. Naturally, this is nonexistent and cannot exist in any democratic country. I hope this is just an unfortunate and unthought-out idea of someone. This could lead to censorship and provide disproportionate protection to authorities from criticism.
Moreover, Article 31 of the Constitution states that all individuals have the right to the inviolability of honor and good reputation... Those in power are not above others in this regard. Furthermore, since the article proposed by the prosecutor's office will be a public prosecution, law enforcement must initiate a case every time someone insults or defames a public official, regardless of that official's desire... And every time, they must determine whether what was said about the official is true or false.
P.S. At the same time, insulting and defaming individuals (all individuals) through fake accounts should also be criminalized. But only through fake accounts and for all individuals, regardless of whether they are in power or not. I will discuss all of this in detail shortly.”
