Import of Turkish Goods Paid for Until October 20, 2020, Will Be Allowed
The state has made amendments to the prohibition on the import of Turkish-origin final consumer goods, allowing the entry of those products for which supply contracts were signed before October 20, 2020, while several other product categories have also come under import restrictions.
In an interview with Armenpress, Deputy Minister of Economy Varos Simonian stated, "If previously we had banned the import of about 2,285 product types, with this amendment we have included more product categories. Exceptions have been made for certain products, as they were intermediate consumption goods used as raw materials in local production. We have tried to ensure that our operators do not face issues in releasing their final products due to imports," said Simonian.
There are product categories whose supply was supposed to take place after January 1, but all payments, contracts, and orders were completed in 2020. The state has made concessions in this issue. "The amendment stipulates that orders fulfilled before October 20, 2020, will be allowed for import, and a timeline restriction has not been set for importation," Simonian noted.
This decision applies to supply contracts signed until October 20, as the decision to prohibit the import of Turkish-origin goods for a period of 6 months was adopted on October 20.
The state also wishes to extend the duration of this ban by another 6 months. It should be noted that the 6-month duration will be maintained, after which stricter measures are anticipated. In other words, operators should consider that the goods currently allowed for import may be included in a new banned import list in 6 months.
The Government of the Republic of Armenia enacted a temporary ban on the import of Turkish-origin final consumer goods on October 20, 2020. The ban came into effect on December 31, 2020.
