Granting State Status to the Russian Language is an Irreversible Process that is Not About Language at All: Babajanyan

National Assembly Member Arman Babajanyan wrote on his Facebook page: “I hope that at least some rational circles in Artsakh remain and understand that granting state status to the Russian language is an irreversible process that is not about language at all.

The draft law is an act against the future of the Nagorno-Karabakh part of our homeland, aiming to eternally embed Artsakh in the Russian sphere regarding the final settlement process and all the prospects of developments around Artsakh, relinquishing the question of Artsakh's status exclusively to Russian goodwill.

This draft law is hardly related to Artsakh. It is a message to Armenia, the guarantor of Artsakh's security, and our common future. It is a message to the global efforts to achieve sustainable and lasting peace in Artsakh, to the OSCE Minsk Group and the co-chairmanship.

In this context, the Minsk Group will continue to exist for some time, meet virtually with officials from Armenia and Azerbaijan, and then the issue will smoothly transfer to Moscow, where it will be included in the agenda of high-level discussions between Russia and Turkey. Just days ago, the former President, former Prime Minister, and Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of that country, Medvedev, stated that Moscow sees the inevitable need to inform Turkey about the details concerning the issue of Artsakh and to discuss it with them.

The independence of our homeland is at risk, and this initiative serves as a wake-up call to all political forces in Artsakh and Armenia, for whom the sovereign, united, democratic, and dignified future of Artsakh and Armenia has no alternative.”
