Poisoning of Birthday Party Participants in Vanadzor Likely Caused by Cake

There is positive dynamics among citizens hospitalized due to gastrointestinal infection at the Vanadzor infectious diseases hospital as of February 16. They are currently undergoing treatment, according to the information received by NEWS.am from the hospital.

It is recalled that 10 individuals who participated in a birthday celebration in Vanadzor were hospitalized with a preliminary diagnosis of gastrointestinal infection. A doctor from the infectious disease hospital stated that no patients have been discharged yet. “At this moment, they do not have fever. The vomiting has ceased. They are receiving their treatments and are generally doing well,” the doctor stated.

According to the patients, the poisoning was likely caused by the cake: “All ten had eaten that cake. There was also a salad with chicken, but not everyone had that.”

It is noted that the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia disseminated information yesterday that on February 13, 14 people participated in the birthday party, during which they consumed homemade creamy confectioneries and a dish made with boiled chicken. As of February 15, at 20:30, 10 attendees had been hospitalized with symptoms including general malaise, vomiting, diarrhea, and a fever rising to 38 degrees Celsius.

The condition of the patients was assessed as moderate severity, while other participants of the party reported no complaints. Information about the incident has been submitted to the Northern Territorial Center of the Health and Labor Inspection Body and the Lori Regional Center of the Food Safety Inspection Body.
