Over 110 Aftershocks Recorded Following Earthquake in Armenia; Only 2-3 Felt in Yerevan
As of February 13, more than 110 aftershocks have been recorded following the recent earthquake in Armenia. Sos Margaryan, acting director of the Seismic Protection Territorial Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, stated this during a press conference.
“Currently, there is aftershock seismic activity, but it is gradually decreasing. There have been tremors of 0.1 magnitude and weaker. In total, only 2-3 aftershocks have been felt in Yerevan after the earthquake on February 13,” Margaryan noted.
On February 13, at 15:29 local time (11:29 GMT), the seismic network of the Seismic Protection Territorial Service registered an earthquake at coordinates 40.11° N latitude and 44.54° E longitude, located 8 km southeast of Yerevan city (about 2 km north of the Nubarashen administrative district) at a depth of 10 km, with a magnitude of 4.7. The intensity of the tremor in the epicentral area was recorded at 6-7 points.
The earthquake was felt in Yerevan with an intensity of 5-6 points, in the Ararat, Armavir, and Kotayk regions with 4-5 points, and in the Aragatsotn, Shirak, Vayots Dzor, Gegharkunik, and Syunik regions with an intensity of 3-4 points.
