Negotiations Ongoing for COVID-19 Vaccine Purchases; 890 Million Drams Allocated as Prepayment

The Information Verification Center reported on its Facebook page that an online news outlet had recently shared that the government had spent 890 million drams on measures to acquire COVID-19 vaccines, yet no vaccines have been obtained.

Referring to a response received from the Ministry of Health, the site noted that while the government had indeed allocated 890 million drams for the procurement of vaccines aimed at preventing COVID-19 in Armenia, no vaccines have been acquired or registered in the country.

The Information Verification Center contacted the Ministry of Health, which clarified that the department is currently in active negotiations with all possible vaccine manufacturers and international partners. The aforementioned 890 million drams, allocated as a prepayment, has been transferred to the international initiative COVAX FACILITY to ensure the availability of doses for Armenia, which is negotiating with manufacturing companies.

It should also be noted that the government has allocated a total of 2.2 billion drams for the acquisition of COVID-19 vaccines.
