Iskander Has Been Used: Serzh Sargsyan Discusses When It Should Have Been Fired
During an interview, former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan elaborated on the limitations faced during the war regarding military logistics, specifically mentioning that they were prohibited from transporting military cargo through Georgia and Iran. He questioned whether similar restrictions were enforced during the April War or afterwards, pointing out the transfer of S-300 missiles and Iskanders. He expressed dissatisfaction with the state of international relations, suggesting that one cannot expect support in critical moments when relations have been strained.
Sargsyan specifically addressed the usage of Iskander missiles, revealing, "I have reliable information that Iskander was used in the later stages of the war, towards the direction of Shushi. As for why they were not employed against the enemy, I cannot say, but I assume it was due to fears of retaliatory strikes. That is, where the missiles would be fired from, that area would consequently come under attack. However, during the war, when you have many concerns, you reach this kind of decision.
He emphasized that Iskander should have been utilized by the fourth or fifth day of the conflict, particularly when Azerbaijan was amassing a significant troop presence around the Horadiz area. He asserted that the Iskander was precisely intended for such situations, stating, "That’s exactly why it was needed."
