Government Unaware of Serious Issues Facing Khndzoresk at the Border, Says Community Leader

The head of the Khndzoresk community in the Syunik region, Ervand Malunts, reports that residents currently lack the ability to engage in seasonal work in their own fields.

"Since yesterday, there has been active discussion on social media and beyond regarding the list of border villages in the Goris community of Syunik province that has been approved by the Armenian government. Since the end of the war, demarcation work has been underway, involving local residents and the army from the Armenian side. It is clear that no one in the government is aware of the specific level and seriousness of the issues each village faces with the enemy. It is a fact that the government possesses no information concerning the border and the border communities. The residents of Khndzoresk today do not have the opportunity to carry out seasonal work in their own fields, as armed enemies "wish it so." The village, with 434 households whose primary livelihoods are livestock breeding and agriculture, now faces the complete loss of their means of subsistence. Each of Khndzoresk's youth is in a ravine, armed, losing sleep and peace, tending to livestock to meet their family's needs. The question arises: how does one remain at the border in such conditions?

H. G. To the Government of Armenia, do not act hastily in serious matters; that approval is not as important as that of the farmer living along the border. Everything should correspond to reality," wrote the head of Khndzoresk.
