Gevorg Petrosyan Exits the Prosperous Armenia Faction
Member of the National Assembly from the Prosperous Armenia faction Gevorg Petrosyan is leaving the faction.
"Guided by the provisions of article 3, part 1, point 9 and article 9, part 4 of the 'Constitutional Law on the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly,' I hereby announce my departure from the National Assembly's Prosperous Armenia faction. To be honest, I have made this decision with great difficulty. At the same time, considering that the primary mission of a mandatorily elected official is to respond to the vital challenges facing the country and the people as quickly and adequately as possible, rather than worrying about personal caution, it is unacceptable for me to delay taking clear actions due to the circumstances of faction membership.
The lack of decisiveness in providing timely political assessments of the evident illegal persecutions and abuses that have been taking place in the country for a considerable time is an approach that I find unacceptable. When I filled this gap and called things by their names, I sparked an inexplicable discomfort among some colleagues. Based on the aforementioned, I no longer find it appropriate to continue my activities within the Prosperous Armenia faction.
At the same time, considering that a deputy is obligated to fulfill the trust given by citizens, I will continue my work in the National Assembly as an independent deputy... I thank my caring colleagues from the Prosperous Armenia faction for our cooperation...," Petrosyan stated in his announcement.
