The NSS Considers the Amount Spent from State Funds for Anna Hakobyan's Bodyguards During Her Travels as a State Secret

The National Security Service of Armenia considers the amount spent from state funds for the trips of bodyguards accompanying Anna Hakobyan, the wife of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during her travels to be a state secret.

As previously reported, Anna Hakobyan traveled to Moscow with her daughters on January 14, 2021. According to circulating rumors, over $10,000 was spent just on plane tickets. After spending about a week in Moscow, Hakobyan returned to Armenia for a few days and then traveled abroad again on January 30, this time to the USA, reportedly to celebrate her birthday.

The news agency Factinfo submitted a written inquiry to the NSS to clarify how many officers from the State Protection Service accompanied Anna Hakobyan and her daughters during their trips to Moscow and the USA, as well as the cost of the bodyguards' travel on a budget already affected by socio-economic and political crises. In particular, we requested information on how many members of the State Protection Service accompanied the Prime Minister's wife on her private visits, what the expenses of their business trips amounted to, including the cost of plane tickets, accommodation, and daily allowances. However, the NSS avoided providing any information regarding expenses related to the state budget, citing it as a state secret.

According to Article 3 of the Law on Special State Protection of Individuals, state protection is implemented according to the principles of employing both overt and covert methods and means. Furthermore, Article 15 of the same law states that state and official protection is carried out in accordance with the legislation on state and official secrets in Armenia.
