The Noble Deer of Dilijan National Park
The noble deer of the Dilijan National Park belong to the "Caucasian Noble Deer Breeding Center." The noble deer, or maral, is a subspecies of the noble deer. Until 1954, the noble deer was widely distributed across the forests of northern, eastern, and southern Armenia. This species is included in Armenia's Red Book (2010) as "Critically Endangered." Since 2013, the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia and WWF Armenia have been implementing the project "Reintroduction of the Noble Deer (Cervus elaphus maral) in Armenia" with the support of the Federal Republic of Germany (BMZ) through KfW Development Bank, WWF Germany, the Caucasus Nature Fund (CNF), the Transboundary Joint Secretariat (TJS), and HSBC Bank Armenia.
