Reports on the Dismantling of the Nzhdeh Monument Do Not Correspond to Reality

Fake news is circulating on social media and in the press, stating that the statue of Garegin Nzhdeh in Martuni, Artsakh, has been dismantled. According to these rumors, the Azerbaijani authorities have contacted Russian peacekeepers regarding the dismantling of the Nzhdeh statue, and the peacekeepers, in turn, reached out to the mayor, Edik Avanesyan.

Martuni's mayor, Edik Avanesyan, responding to the information, states that the statue is still in place and that there have been no discussions about its dismantling, as reported by the Information Verification Center: “The statue of Garegin Nzhdeh was installed before the war on September 26. There were still works to be done on the statue; the sculptor needed to finish the remaining work on site, but the war delayed these tasks. It might be necessary to move the half-finished statue to the workshop to complete the unfinished works. However, the information regarding its dismantling is not true,” the mayor reported.

A representative from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture of the Artsakh Republic, Nver Dadamyann, also responded to the news. He posted a photo and video of the standing statue on his Facebook page, stating: “It will stand forever, and that’s final.”
