Gakharia Calls Resignation Rumors 'Ordinary Gossip'

Georgi Gakharia has described the rumors circulating in Georgian media regarding his resignation from the position of Prime Minister as "ordinary gossip." EAdaily news outlet reports this statement.

"This is ordinary gossip... Irakli Kobakhidze is a worthy leader of the 'Georgian Dream' and my good friend. These conversations and speculations must end here. We are doing one job," Gakharia told reporters during a visit to Guria.

He noted that he feels "full support" from his team, which gives him "strength to effectively solve problems." According to Gakharia, such rumors are propagated by his opponents who ignore serious issues and refuse to participate in political life.

“Polarization, political boycotts, and political hooliganism must be put to an end once and for all, as the country faces challenges related to the economy and national security, compounded by the coronavirus pandemic. It is impossible for one political force to resist these challenges. This polarization is already becoming a problem for the country's security and future,” Gakharia stated.

For several days, some opposition media in Georgia have been circulating information that the current Prime Minister may resign. Citing their sources, the journalists of these publications have reported on disagreements between Gakharia and Irakli Kobakhidze, who was appointed as the chairman of the ruling 'Georgian Dream' party after its founder, billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili, withdrew from politics.
