Lifelong Imprisonment for Treason and Espionage with Asset Seizure Proposed by BHK
BHK MP Vahe Enfiadjyans presented a bill that proposes lifelong imprisonment for cases of treason and espionage, along with the confiscation of assets. According to him, they studied similar legal regulations in other countries, particularly in Israel, Russia, England, and France, as well as in regional countries.
“We have also conducted inquiries in Armenia because our realities and issues are the most important. We have received information from Yerevan State University, the Chamber of Advocates, the Ministry of Justice, the Judicial Department, as well as from the police and the NSS,” he stated.
Enfiadjyans emphasized that the primary philosophy behind the bill is establishing the highest punishment for treason and espionage. He also detailed the circumstances under which actions would be considered treason and espionage according to their proposal: “Allegiance to the enemy, handing over state secrets to a foreign state or foreign organization or their representatives, providing assistance for hostile activities, as well as handing over or collecting, stealing, or keeping information containing state secrets for a foreign state or foreign organization or their representatives. Handing over or collecting other information at the behest of foreign intelligence, as well as carrying out actions that threaten national and internal security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and defense capability,” he added.
