Defense Ministry Statement on Road Safety Monitoring in Syunik Province

The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia has issued a statement, which reads: "In response to inquiries from media representatives, we find it necessary to remind that on December 19, 2020, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia released a message, which, in particular, stated: '1. In accordance with the agreements reached, Russian border guard forces will be deployed in the Goris-Davit Bek road segment for the uninterrupted flow of traffic. 2. The safety of the 21 km section of the Goris-Kapan highway, which passes through a disputed area, will be ensured by Russian border guard forces. 3. On one side of the contact line, Armenian border guards will be deployed, and on the other side, Azerbaijani border guards will be positioned. Necessary comprehensive measures will be undertaken to ensure the safety of this road segment.' Thus, within the framework of these comprehensive measures, Armenian and Russian border services have been deployed in the road segment to ensure the safety of citizens' movements, transportation, and cargo transfers. An agreement has been reached between the defense ministers of Armenia and Russia regarding the safety monitoring of the aforementioned roads by Russian border guards."
