The First Batch of 100 Buses is Gradually Supplementing City Routes, Says Mayor

After the partial lifting of restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic, representatives of partner organizations attended the city hall's regular working meeting. Referring to the agenda's work and current issues, Mayor Hayk Marutyan made several observations regarding various sectors.

Considering the already noticeable construction activities, the mayor drew the attention of the Road Police to the problem of trucks exiting construction sites with dirty tires, as well as vehicles transporting construction materials in open containers. "Construction is the driving force of the economy, and the city government encourages the development of the sector. However, extensive construction should not cause inconvenience to city residents," the mayor emphasized.

Regarding the ongoing transportation reforms, Mayor Marutyan also highlighted the issue of prohibiting other vehicles from parking at public transport stops. The first batch of 100 acquired buses is gradually supplementing the city routes. Incidentally, the procurement competition for the acquisition of 161 units of 8.5-meter buses with community funds is also proceeding positively. The contract with the winning organization is expected to be signed soon, after which the buses will be delivered within six months.

The mayor urged the companies "Veolia Jur," "Electric Networks of Armenia," and "Gazprom Armenia" to install necessary signs in the areas during emergency restoration work and to ensure quality maintenance of the area after the emergency is resolved.

It was reported to the mayor that the installation of about 500 new elevators, as planned in 2020, has been completed, and they have been put into operation. Mobile trade points have been operating this year only with the permission of the city hall. This requirement is stipulated by law, while specific locations and criteria for mobile trade are determined by the council's decision. It has been reported that the city hall is already receiving applications from entrepreneurs to engage in activities. Applications that comply with the established requirements are granted permission.
