Return of Five More Armenian Prisoners a Result of Russian Mediation Efforts

The Russian Embassy in Armenia has announced: "Today, a new action was held in front of the embassy demanding the resolution of the issue regarding the return of Armenian prisoners. We fully understand and share the grief and anxiety of the families whose relatives and loved ones have not yet returned home. We are aware of the acute nature and sensitivity of the current situation. This is indeed a great human tragedy.

We want to reiterate that the issue of exchanging prisoners between Armenia and Azerbaijan is a focus of attention for the leadership of the Russian Federation. The Russian peacekeeping mission and the International Humanitarian Response Center are directly participating in addressing this pressing issue, closely coordinating with the relevant authorities of Armenia. It would certainly be preferable that the process moves at a faster pace; however, believe us, there is diligent, painstaking, and not easy work being carried out.

The evident result of the mediation efforts from the Russian side is, in particular, the return of another five Armenian prisoners on February 9. This occasion raises certain questions regarding why, especially after an event reflecting the results of the efforts of the Russian leadership and Russian peacekeepers, such gatherings are taking place in front of the embassy. It inevitably raises the question: what are the real objectives of those organizing similar actions in front of the diplomatic mission?"
