Plans to Include Border Villages
The Government of Armenia plans to include approximately 40 communities in the Syunik and Gegharkunik provinces that have become border villages due to the consequences of war in the list of border villages.
This was stated by Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Mesrop Arakelyan during a Q&A session in the National Assembly, responding to a question from Surbhi Grigoryan, a member of the 'Enlightened Armenia' faction.
"The issue is being addressed through the law on social assistance for border communities, which currently includes about 40 communities. A draft of proposed changes will be presented at tomorrow's government session, according to which almost 40 more communities from Syunik and Gegharkunik provinces will be included in that list, allowing their residents to benefit from the established privileges," said Arakelyan.
Residents of the communities that have become border villages will be exempt from property tax payments, and they will also receive partial compensation for utility charges. Additionally, school textbooks will become free for their children.
