Manager of Hayekonombank's Martuni Branch Suspected of Embezzling Large Sums

The Criminal Investigation Department of the Police has initiated materials against Ararat Khachatryan, the 54-year-old manager of the 'Martuni' branch of Hayekonombank LLC.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, the Criminal Police received information that Khachatryan had misappropriated part of the deposits made by clients by using his position to forge documents.

Police officials took necessary measures and discovered that on January 19, 2017, and January 10, 2020, a 64-year-old resident of Gegharkunik, Khnar Mikayelyan, had deposited $170,000 and $50,000, respectively, under a deposit agreement at the Martuni branch. From those amounts, branch manager Khachatryan embezzled a total of $120,000 along with interest by forging the documents.

It was also revealed that a 53-year-old resident of Gegharkunik, Husik Harutyunyan, had made deposits of $200,000 and $150,000 on October 23, 2018, and May 6, 2019, respectively, under deposit agreements in his name and that of his sister's husband, Karen Nahapetyan. Khachatryan had embezzled a total of $150,000 along with interest from these deposits by also forging documents.

According to SHAMSHYAN.com, the police are currently searching for Ararat Khachatryan, the manager of the Martuni branch of Hayekonombank.
