Ara Ayvazyan Sees No Reason for Turkey to Keep Border with Armenia Closed

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ara Ayvazyan, stated that he sees no reason for Turkey to keep the state border with Armenia closed. He made this remark today during a question-and-answer session with the government in the National Assembly, responding to the inquiry from independent MP Gor Gevorgyan.

“I believe that Turkey, under pressure from the international community, should gradually return to a normal process; there is no longer any reason to impose a blockade on Armenia. The blockade was related to the status quo in Artsakh, which has been altered through the use of force. Turkey has no reason to keep the border closed with Armenia anymore,” Ayvazyan said.

Ayvazyan added that the government's main objective is to do everything possible to strengthen the security environment around Armenia and Artsakh. “This is not an easy task. Naturally, as a state and society, we must strive to make every effort to ensure that the situation moves towards de-escalation. Our diplomacy will make active efforts to create a favorable environment for strengthening Armenia's security,” Ayvazyan emphasized.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that Armenia is also concerned about the joint Turkish-Azerbaijani military exercises taking place in Kars.
