Winter Draft Begins in Syunik

On February 9, from the Garegin Nzhdeh Memorial in the regional center of Syunik, the first group of draftees for this year's winter draft was sent off to serve in the Armenian Army from the communities of Kapan and Kajaran. Attendees included representatives of regional and municipal authorities, law enforcement agencies, military personnel, freedom fighters, clergy, and family members of the draftees.

The young men were welcomed under the fluttering tricolor flag of Armenia and were sent off with the urging words of Garegin Nzhdeh. The speeches delivered during the event emphasized respect for the heroes who fell in the recent war, along with a message to continue their legacy with selfless service to the homeland.

Vahanavank's spiritual leader, Primate Father Avetik Martirosyan, blessed the attendees. Deputy Governor of Syunik, Karo Avanesyan, conveyed the best wishes of Governor Melikset Poghosyan and noted the concerns of the parents, stating they should be proud of raising children ready to serve their homeland, while wishing the draftees peaceful service and a safe return.

The draftees were also greeted and wished good service by Colonel Garegin Poghosyan, commander of the military unit stationed in Kapan, and Lieutenant Colonel Vahe Aghalaryan, head of the territorial subdivision of the Syunik recruitment and enlistment service.

Additionally, certificates of appreciation were handed over to the reservists who distinguished themselves during their service in the 2020 Artsakh War. The draftees, after laying flowers at Garegin Nzhdeh's tomb, departed for the central gathering point.
