White House Explains Why Biden Spoke to Putin Sooner than Other Leaders
White House spokesperson Jen Psaki explained the significance of the phone conversation between U.S. President Joe Biden and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. Psaki stated, ‘During this call, Biden made it clear that concerns regarding his and the administration’s stance were related to the actions of the Russian government.’
According to RIA Novosti, during a press briefing, Psaki was asked why the American leader spoke with Putin before other global leaders. She noted that this conversation was necessary as the term of the treaty on the further reduction and limitation of strategic offensive weapons was coming to an end.
The call between Putin and Biden took place on January 26. According to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, the conversation was initiated by Moscow and lasted for over 35 minutes. He described it as a working and candid discussion.
