Mine Clearance Work to be Conducted in the Martakert Region
The State Emergency Service of the Artsakh Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that today its demining units will carry out reconnaissance and simultaneous mine clearance operations in the city of Martakert, as well as in the adjacent areas of the villages of Varnkatagh, Mets Shen, and Jankhatagh.
Additionally, the Humanitarian Demining Center Foundation will conduct blasting operations in the city of Martuni and nearby communities, including the Khndzoresk and Aygestan communities in the Askeran region.
Since September 27, 2020, the demining units of the Emergency Service, the Humanitarian Demining Center Foundation, and the Halo Trust NGO have been working to clear unexploded ordnance from the territory of Artsakh, turning potential threats into a safer environment. Russian military demining units later joined the efforts.
It is important to remember that on the morning of September 27, 2020, Azerbaijan, with the support of Turkey, launched a large-scale military offensive along the entire length of the Artsakh-Azerbaijan border. Military operations were halted following a statement signed on November 9 by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
