Ayb Educational Foundation Reports a Crime to the Prosecutor General
The Ayb Educational Foundation has submitted a report of a crime to the Prosecutor General of Armenia regarding the statements and actions of the former Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports. This information was obtained from the foundation's Facebook page.
“The foundation lodged a report against Arthur Davtyan concerning the ongoing de facto persecutions against him since May 2018. On February 1, a report spanning around 100 pages was sent from the Prosecutor General's Office to the Special Investigation Service,” the statement reads.
The foundation indicates that the basis for the report were the public statements and certain actions by the former Minister of Education and other high-ranking officials, which resulted in the suspension of the National Excellence in Education Program. Within the framework of this program, the “Ararat Bachelor” program was to be introduced in high schools.
According to the statement, students from several schools in Armenia and Artsakh were deprived of their legitimate right to receive quality, free education in their native language through the program, which would have ensured them a diploma recognized by the world’s leading universities. Especially in recent months, interventions by state bodies have led to two lawsuits filed by the Ayb Educational Foundation in the administrative court. Court hearings have been scheduled for June 11, 2021. A letter concerning this matter has also been sent to the Prosecutor General.
It is worth recalling that earlier the Office of the Prosecutor General announced that a criminal case had been initiated regarding the apparent embezzlement of funds in connection with the program implemented by the Ayb Educational Foundation. It was noted that the criminal case was initiated based on a letter received from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports regarding possible abuses in the National Excellence in Education Program, specifically concerning the alleged embezzlement through wasteful spending for the implementation of the program.
