Avinyan Discusses Persian Gulf-Black Sea Transport Corridor with Georgian Ambassador
On February 8, Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan received the Ambassador of Georgia to Armenia, Giorgi Saganelidze. The meeting addressed issues related to the international transport corridor "Persian Gulf-Black Sea" and new opportunities in this framework.
In the context of improving transport communication between the two countries, the progress of renovation works on the roads leading from the Bavra and Gogavani border points into the depths of Georgia was discussed.
According to the office of the Deputy Prime Minister, Avinyan emphasized that strengthening the Armenia-Georgia relations is one of the key directions of Armenia's foreign policy. As the head of the intergovernmental commission, Avinyan highlighted the importance of consistently reinforcing Armenian-Georgian friendly cooperation.
Ambassador Saganelidze noted that ambitious progress can be achieved through joint and effective work on the bilateral agenda.
Avinyan considered trade and economic cooperation to be a key component of Armenian-Georgian relations, stating that all necessary conditions for mutually beneficial expansion are present. In this context, the resumption of activities of the Armenia-Georgia intergovernmental commission in 2019 was emphasized.
During the conversation, Tigran Avinyan presented the issue of returning Armenian captives held in Azerbaijan, which is a priority for the Armenian government.
To activate bilateral contacts and develop tourism, the possibility of crossing borders with identification cards was discussed.
The parties also talked about the "North-South" energy corridor project, the work already done in this direction, and the planned steps ahead.
