Armenian Security Service Reports on Released Azerbaijani Soldiers
Two soldiers from the Azerbaijani armed forces, recently released through the mediation of Russian peacekeepers, found themselves on Armenian territory due to getting lost because of bad weather conditions. This information was provided to Sputnik Armenia by the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia in response to our written inquiry.
The Russian Ministry of Defense's press service reported on February 1st that two soldiers of the Azerbaijani armed forces had been released with the mediation of Russian peacekeepers. The NSS had detained them on January 30 within the territory of Tegh village in the Syunik province.
The media outlet had sent a written inquiry to the NSS to understand the basis on which these soldiers were released. “A relevant decision regarding them was made following comprehensive discussions with the Russian peacekeepers,” stated the NSS in their response.
At the same time, the NSS press center informs that the process was carried out considering that a similar incident had occurred on the Armenian side, and the issue was resolved following mutual agreement and the same procedure.
It is worth recalling that the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense also stated that on January 30, 2021, at the request of the Azerbaijani side, a medical unit (special operations) of the Russian peacekeeping contingent evacuated 16 sick Azerbaijani servicemen from the village of Vank and handed them over to Azerbaijani doctors.
