The Number of Armenian Citizens in Turkey Decreased by About 30% in 2020

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has released data on the population of Turkey for 2020, compiled according to residence addresses. This is reported by Ermenihaber.am.

According to the published data, the number of foreigners residing in Turkey decreased by 197,770 individuals (13%) compared to the previous year, totaling 1,333,410.

As before, in 2020, Iraqi citizens led the number of foreigners residing in Turkey, with a total of 281,074. They are followed by Afghan citizens, numbering 158,252. German citizens rank third with 92,284.

Turkey also hosts a significant number of citizens from Turkmenistan, Syria, Iran, and Azerbaijan. Notably, in 2020, the highest number of new residents were Afghan citizens. The number of citizens from Germany, Australia, Bulgaria, England, Greece, Denmark, Russia, Canada, Switzerland, Kuwait, and Somalia also increased.

On the other hand, the number of citizens from the USA, Ukraine, Moldova, Sweden, Norway, Italy, Romania, Belgium, France, Syria, Iraq, and Iran decreased. It is noteworthy that despite the continuous development of Turkish-Qatari relations, the increase in the number of Qatari citizens was minimal, totaling only 711, up from 676 the previous year.
