Soldiers in Artsakh Will Serve Less Than Two Years, Says Vahram Poghosyan
The Defense Army of Artsakh is not being disbanded, but is undergoing reorganization. This was stated by Vahram Poghosyan, spokesperson for the President of Artsakh, in an interview with 24News. He added that according to initial plans, soldiers will begin to serve for less than two years, while the army will be reorganized on a professional basis.
“The statements made by Vitaly Balasanyan, Secretary of the Security Council of Artsakh, refuted rumors regarding the disbandment of the Artsakh Defense Army. It will not be dismantled, but restructured. The duration of service for conscripted soldiers will also be reviewed, and it will be less than two years. I cannot say how much the new service term will be set; it is still under discussion,” he said.
Authorities are also discussing issues concerning the number of troops. They will decide how many soldiers will serve and what kind of weapons and military supplies our army will have,” he added.
It is worth noting that according to information from Armenian media, the Artsakh Defense Army is set to disband in the near future at the request of the Azerbaijani side, while the security of the contact lines will be ensured by Russian peacekeepers and newly formed employees of the Artsakh Ministry of Internal Affairs.
