Different Officer Buried in Yerablur Instead of Artsakh Hero Sergey Shakharyan; Exhumation Conducted
The body of Artsakh hero Sergey Shakharyan, who was killed during the war, was mistakenly identified, and another officer was buried in Yerablur instead of him. This was reported to Tert.am by a source from the Ministry of Defense.
During the war, Sergey Shakharyan was buried in Yerablur, and later it was communicated to his relatives that the person interred there was not Sergey Shakharyan.
“Eventually, the relatives managed to be convinced to agree to an exhumation, after which various analyses revealed that the buried body was not that of Sergey Shakharyan but another officer. The exhumation was conducted on January 21. Now, other remains have been found, which are probably those of Sergey Shakharyan, and research is still ongoing, or perhaps has already completed,” said the source from the Ministry of Defense.
It is worth noting that Sergey Shakharyan, who dedicated himself to the army since the age of 17, was awarded the title of Artsakh Hero during the 44-day war. The Ministry of Defense announced his death on November 2. Sergey Shakharyan was buried in October.
