My Step Alliance MP Anush Begloyan to be Appointed Ambassador to the United Kingdom
My Step Alliance MP Anush Begloyan is set to be appointed as the ambassador to the United Kingdom. This information has been confirmed by parliamentary sources of Factinfo.
It is noted that in the coming days it will become clear whether she will resign her mandate.
The news of her candidacy emerged following her participation in an online conference of the “Border Zone” project, during which her statements gained significant attention. Anush Begloyan remarked during the videoconference, “We must look forward, not indulge in endless discussions about who was first or whose historical land it is. As you know, Armenians have no equal when it comes to referencing historical sources and writers. Both sides have been engaged in this for 30 years, and it has brought us to war.”
In a conversation with journalists, Anush Begloyan insisted that her remarks during the conference were misrepresented, although a video of those statements had also been circulated online.
It is worth noting that during the same press briefing, when the MP attempted to comment on her controversial statements as well as Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's observations regarding Shushi, she referred to the Armenian city of Shushi as Shusha.
Let us recall that the position of the Armenian Ambassador to the United Kingdom has been vacant since the death of Ambassador Arman Kirakosyan in July 2019, while the functions of the ambassador in this major European country are currently being carried out by an interim official.
