ECHR Receives Inter-State Complaints from Armenia and Azerbaijan
On January 15 and February 1, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) received the inter-state complaints titled "Azerbaijan v. Armenia" and "Armenia v. Azerbaijan," respectively.
According to a report from 1lurer.am, the applicants allege widespread violations of the Human Rights Convention during the military operations that began on September 27, 2020. The court has also received applications regarding prisoners of war from both countries, as well as from their relatives. To date, 241 applications have been submitted, of which 228 are by Armenians and 13 by Azerbaijanis.
The ECHR has requested information regarding these individuals from the relevant governments. The court must first decide whether to examine the complaints or not. As a first step, the ECHR has notified the respondent parties of the receipt of the complaints.
