On February 3, 1998, Republic President Levon Ter-Petrosyan was compelled to resign and transfer power, considering the prevailing situation in the country. Ter-Petrosyan's resignation was followed by the resignations of the Speaker of the National Assembly, vice-speakers, ministers, and other officials. Without serious upheaval, power smoothly transitioned to Robert Kocharyan.
