Armenia Engages in Active Negotiations for Acquisition of Russian 'Sputnik V' Vaccine
The Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan met with the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Russian Federation to Armenia, Sergey Kopirkin, and diplomatic counselor Pavel Kurochkin from the Russian Embassy. This was reported by the Ministry of Health of Armenia.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the directions of cooperation agreed upon between the health ministries of the two countries within the framework of the intergovernmental commission's meeting protocol.
Anahit Avanesyan emphasized the importance of the regular support provided by Russia to Armenia, which includes vaccines, laboratory and diagnostic equipment, including diagnostic and treatment mobile clinics.
It should be noted that the Armenian-Russian health conferences play a significant role in the development of bilateral relations, held annually in Moscow and Yerevan. The upcoming 2021 conference is scheduled to take place in Moscow.
Minister Avanesyan expressed gratitude to Russia for its invaluable support in combating the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19), stressing that active cooperation has been ongoing with Russian partners over the past year.
“It is very important for us to have close cooperation with the Russian side, regular exchange of information and experiences, and today our specialists are actively negotiating the acquisition of the Russian 'Sputnik V' vaccine. In this context, I would like to mention that the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia has signed a cooperation agreement within the framework of the 'COVAX FACILITY' initiative; however, we are also ready to acquire additional batches of the Russian 'Sputnik V' vaccine within the framework of this initiative,” said Anahit Avanesyan.
At the end of the meeting, both sides expressed their gratitude for the effective cooperation, emphasizing that this process has a serious constructive basis and is aimed at developing collaboration between strategic allies and ensuring the health and well-being of the populations of our countries.
