Chief Accountant of National Center for Infectious Diseases Embezzles 345 Million Dram
The Armenian National Security Service’s investigative department has launched a criminal case under Article 179, Part 3, Clause 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. According to the preliminary investigation, effective operational and investigative measures have revealed that the chief accountant of the National Center for Infectious Diseases, I.V., while being responsible under the employment contract and in accordance with the laws of Armenia for the proper implementation of all functions related to the company's activities, specifically ensuring the safety and efficient use of property, funds, and other material values that belong to the employer or have been entrusted to its current management, transferred an amount of 345,300,000 Armenian drams to his accounts in Ameriabank and Inecobank from July 2019 to December 2020, utilizing his official position for embezzlement.
During this same period, he cashed out these amounts and used them for personal needs, thus illegally appropriating a significant sum belonging to the National Center for Infectious Diseases. The National Security Service reports that I.V. has been charged with this public danger act and has provided confessional testimonies, partially restoring some of the damages inflicted upon the National Center for Infectious Diseases. Furthermore, he has expressed his willingness to fully restore the damages to the company within a short timeframe.
The preliminary investigation is ongoing, and active legal and operational measures are being taken to identify the full range of individuals involved in this corrupt scheme and to provide legal assessments of their actions.
