Chaos at the Airport: Our Fellow Citizens Fleeing the Country with Families and Newborns, Says Zohrabyan

What was happening at the airport today was chaos. It was heartbreaking to see our countrymen fleeing the homeland with their families and newborn children, and I do not blame any of them.

This was stated today, February 1, during a press conference by MP Naira Zohrabyan from the Bright Armenia faction in the National Assembly.

“Many of our citizens were unaware that they needed to download the COVID test certificate on their phones and had gone to the flight with a paper version, which did not allow them to board. Just last night, at 23:30, the price of a one-way ticket from Yerevan to Moscow reached $750. In the coming days, ticket prices will likely be auctioned off in lots. Those fortunate enough to have downloaded the COVID app and followed all the rules considered themselves lucky to have flown out.”

“I can make a painful prediction that this emigration will be more horrific than that of the 1990s. Why? Because, unfortunately, for many hundreds of thousands of our compatriots, Armenia today is the most dangerous country for them and their children,” she added.

Zohrabyan noted that most of those leaving had voted for Nikol Pashinyan. “Yes, they were the ones, because it was clear that it was that segment who after years of despair, injustice, and hopelessness saw hope in the revolution led by Nikol and believed that they were among the three million prime ministers who would live better because Nikol would restore what was lost and distribute it in envelopes to the three million prime ministers.”
