Turkey-Iran Bilateral Relations Are Vital, Zarif Says

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif visited Turkey yesterday as part of a regional tour. Prior to his meetings with senior Turkish officials, Zarif gave an interview to Iranian state television, as reported by Ermenihaber.am.

Zarif emphasized that the bilateral relations between Turkey and Iran, as well as cooperation on regional issues, are of vital importance, adding that Iran-Turkey relations require continuous consultations.

According to the Iranian Foreign Minister, it is crucial to establish the necessary conditions for lasting peace in the Caucasus through cooperation. He referred to the six-party regional cooperation initiative involving Russia, Iran, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Armenia, stating: “This mechanism was previously brought to the agenda by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and other senior officials in the region. I had meetings on this issue, and I will inform Turkish officials about the outcomes, as this is particularly important for cooperation in the field of transit.”

It is noteworthy that Zarif has previously expressed support for the six-party cooperation initiative in the region.
