Former Governor Vahe Hakobyan Questioned for Not Attending the Provincial Administration for 4 Days
The questioning of former Syunik province governor Vahe Hakobyan has concluded, relating to his absence from the provincial administration for four days. This was recently announced by his lawyers.
In a statement, they indicated that Hakobyan was questioned in a witness procedural capacity, although the questions posed by the investigating authority were of a revealing nature, to which comprehensive answers were provided.
At the very beginning of the questioning, it was noted that the criminal case was initiated back on March 29, 2020, meaning that Mr. Hakobyan was invited for questioning 11 months later.
We made a written statement asserting that this process is purely political in nature, since inviting Mr. Hakobyan for questioning only 11 months after the initiation of the criminal case, especially subsequent to his demonstration of political activity, amounts to nothing more than political persecution.
Due to the secrecy of the pre-investigation, we cannot disclose much information regarding the questioning, only to inform the public that it concerns Mr. Hakobyan's alleged absence from work for four working days. We reiterate: four working days.
Regarding this matter, comprehensive clarifications were provided, and we also established in the legal realm that under the given circumstances, there can be no talk of any crime, particularly misappropriation or misuse of funds.
It is important to add that the governor's position is political, as well as representative, and his working hours are not regulated; therefore, his physical absence from the workplace does not necessarily mean he was not engaged in his duties.
