Court Denies Gevorg Loretsyan's Request for Release on 2 Million Dram Bail

The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by Judge Artush Gabrielian, today rejected the motion to apply bail for the former Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, Gevorg Loretsyan.

During the court session, Defense Attorney Levon Sahakyan presented this motion, proposing a bail amount of 2 million AMD. The basis for Loretsyan's detention is the risk of obstructing justice; however, Defense Attorney Sahakyan stated that Loretsyan does not recognize the witnesses summoned in the case and has had no contact with them.

Prosecutor Gevorg Sarkisyan opposed Loretsyan's release on bail, citing that numerous court rulings have substantiated the risks of hiding from trial proceedings and obstructing the investigation. According to him, the court has assessed the circumstances of influencing witnesses and hiding twice, and the motion does not present any new information.

The prosecutor declared that the motion is subject to rejection. Returning from the deliberation room, the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, under Judge Artush Gabrielian, decided to deny the defense's appeal. Thus, Gevorg Loretsyan will remain in custody.

The next court session is scheduled for March 12 at 15:30.
