Azerbaijan's Chief of General Staff Dismissed

Azerbaijan's Chief of General Staff Dismissed

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense, which had remained silent for four months regarding the fate of Chief of General Staff Najmaddin Sadigov, has announced that he has been dismissed from his post and transferred to reserve.

According to Armenpress, the Turan Agency notes that during the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War, the Ministry of Defense did not respond to inquiries about the whereabouts of the Chief of General Staff and did not comment on rumors of his dismissal.

Military sources have reported that Sadigov was dismissed at the very beginning of the war, a decision attributed to dissatisfaction from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who criticized the chief of staff for inadequate reporting on the situation within the army. Several former servicemen believe that the losses at the onset of the war were related to the name of the former chief of staff. Subsequently, many of Sadigov's subordinates were also removed from the Ministry of Defense.

Although four months have passed since Sadigov's dismissal, no one has been appointed to the position of Chief of General Staff as of yet, reports Turan.
