Ara Ayvazyan Had a Phone Conversation with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay
On January 25, Armenian Foreign Minister Ara Ayvazyan had a phone conversation with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay. This was reported by the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The interlocutors once again addressed the issues of preserving the Armenian historical and religious heritage in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone and the prospects for cooperation with UNESCO in this context. Minister Ayvazyan emphasized that Armenian cultural and historical monuments are an integral part of the region's rich heritage, and he expects UNESCO to be actively involved in their protection.
Ayvazyan highlighted the urgency of taking steps to preserve Armenian cultural and religious heritage in areas of Artsakh currently under Azerbaijani control, especially against the backdrop of deliberate destruction and distortion of Armenian heritage. He welcomed the decision to send a UNESCO fact-finding mission and emphasized the universal importance of Artsakh's Armenian cultural heritage, deeming unacceptable the politicization of their protection and the Azerbaijani side's practice of creating artificial obstacles in this process.
