Functional Prosthetics to be Implemented According to International Standards for Those in Need
During today’s government meeting, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Mesrop Arakelyan presented a draft to establish a special procedure for the prosthetics of individuals injured as a result of military operations.
The minister stated that the necessity of adopting this draft arises from the need to provide more functional prosthetics for individuals who have been wounded in the war. “According to the current regulations, individuals in need of prosthetics apply to the ministry and are given a certificate, through which they acquire prosthetics; however, the existing regulations and the criteria defined do not allow for the implementation of more functional prosthetics,” the minister noted.
He proposed that for those servicemen who require prosthetics, functional prosthetics will be implemented in accordance with all international standards. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also mentioned that the main objective of this decision is twofold: to organize the prosthetics process for compatriots in need of prosthetics quickly and comfortably, and to elevate the quality of prosthetics to a high level.
“We also need to ensure proper professional retraining for our compatriots with disabilities or support them in gaining education, so that our policy is not one of resignation, but rather one of overcoming; in this case, we must implement policy so that people with disabilities do not resign themselves to this status, but we support them in overcoming the limitations imposed by that situation,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan also stated that they will address service-related issues. He noted that today they are discussing this matter with the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Social Affairs, including the financial aspects. Avinyan suggested postponing the vote on the issue today, making a few amendments, and voting in writing tomorrow. Earlier, Avinyan announced that the number of servicemen with severe injuries due to the war does not exceed 150.
