Prime Minister: Never Before Has There Been Such a Large-Scale Return of Captives
In the last several years, captives from Armenia have consistently been held in Azerbaijan. Currently, the number of captives is high, but if we look at it contextually, never before have more captives been returned to Armenia than after November 9.
This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a Q&A session with the government in the National Assembly, responding to a question from Gevorg Gorgisyan, a member of the ‘Enlightened Armenia’ faction, regarding the return of captives.
“Never before has such a large-scale return of captives taken place,” said Pashinyan, adding that the opposition’s framing of the issue jeopardizes the lives of the captives.
The deputy noted that ‘Enlightened Armenia’ demands the resignation of Nikol Pashinyan, expressing doubts that he, as a defeated leader, can adequately represent and defend Armenia's interests on international platforms.
According to Gorgisyan, the meeting held in Moscow on January 11 served as proof of these claims, as although Pashinyan prioritized the issue of the return of captives, no achievements have been made in this regard.
“This proves that in this important topic, during Armenia-Azerbaijan negotiations, you are no longer capable of defending Armenia's interests; hence, why don’t you resign and allow capable forces to come and continue the negotiations in a more favorable direction for Armenia?” he said.
