New Regulations Established for Obtaining a Driver's License

According to the new regulations set by the Government of Armenia, theoretical examinations for obtaining a driver's license will be conducted starting January 1. In addition to Armenian, it will now be possible to take exams in English, Russian, Persian, and Arabic.

The police reported that the number of questions in the knowledge assessment tests has been increased from 10 to 20, and the duration of the exam has been extended from 15 to 30 minutes. Additionally, driver's licenses will be provided for riding mopeds.

For categories 'A', 'A1', and 'B1', practical examinations will only take place at driving ranges. In the absence of such facilities, practical tests will be conducted in real conditions on the roads or streets of the republic until 2027. For category 'B', tests will occur only under real conditions.

For all other categories and their subcategories, tests will be conducted both at driving ranges and in real traffic conditions. Until 2027, those who do not have a driving range or an outdoor testing area will only conduct practical tests in real conditions.

Individuals applying for licenses for categories 'A', 'B', and 'BE', as well as subcategories 'A1' and 'B1', are required to undergo a medical evaluation to ensure there are no health issues obstructing their ability to operate a vehicle. This evaluation is also mandatory if the application contains indications of health conditions that may hinder driving.

Those applying for driver's licenses for operating vehicles of categories 'C', 'D', 'T', 'CE', 'DE', 'C1', 'D1', and 'C1E', 'D1E' must present a certified medical evaluation to the traffic police when applying for the first time. If an individual is exchanging or requesting a duplicate of a license in these categories, they must undergo a medical evaluation if it is evident that they may have a health condition obstructing vehicle operation.

Citizens of Armenia applying for driver's licenses, exchanges, or duplicates must present an identification document. Foreign citizens must provide identification and documents proving their legal residence in Armenia, such as a residence card. Stateless persons need to present a travel document issued by a foreign state and a residence certificate or other document confirming legal residence in Armenia. Refugees and individuals granted political asylum must present a convention travel document, while asylum seekers must provide an identification certificate for asylum seekers. Those granted temporary protection status must show a temporary asylum certificate.
