Military Operations Between Azerbaijan and Turkey Remain on the Agenda: Tigran Abrahamyan

Turkey and Azerbaijan do not hide their objectives, posing a threat to Armenia and Artsakh. Even after recent military actions, Turkey and Azerbaijan continue to make claims regarding various regions of Armenia, including Syunik Province. As history has shown, they face no prohibitive factors in pursuing their objectives through military means.

This was stated by Tigran Abrahamyan, the head of the Analytical Center "Henaket," in an interview with Tert.am, commenting on the joint military exercises scheduled to take place in Kars.

According to the "Razm.Info" website, the Turkish Haber Turk news agency reports that Turkey and Azerbaijan will conduct joint military exercises in Kars, involving tanks, artillery, helicopters, and special forces units.

Abrahamyan noted that further joint Azerbaijan-Turkey military exercises are expected soon, indicating that military operations have not left the Azerbaijan-Turkey agenda and that our political strategy must take this into account.

“Unfortunately, as a result of military operations, Azerbaijan and Turkey have gained a number of psychological leverage points to exert pressure on Armenia, and these exercises are one of them. It is also important to consider that they have great ambitions to gain advantages in the region and surpass their rivals, and they are doing everything to solidify their positions in the region. This is yet another manifestation of that,” he stated.

He emphasized that given that the forces conducting the exercises are from a hostile state, their actions should be concerning for us.

When asked whether Armenia should also conduct military exercises in light of ongoing exercises in the region, Abrahamyan mentioned that the Armenian Armed Forces have a combat readiness plan for each year, which includes conducting exercises. In this case, conducting exercises aimed at increasing vigilance in the troops or neutralizing threats is expected, but the decision should be made by the General Staff.
