Russian-Armenian-Azerbaijani Intergovernmental Commission to Meet by End of January, Maria Zakharova

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, responded to a question from "News" during a press briefing held in Moscow.

"As a result of the negotiations held in Moscow on January 11, a statement was adopted regarding the creation of a transport corridor. In response to questions about whether the conditions for the establishment of this corridor have been agreed upon, for example, who owns the territory through which the railway and the highway will pass, to what extent Azerbaijan guarantees the inviolability of these routes, and whether it will undertake not to close them," Zakharova said.

"Referring to the trilateral statement of November 9, I would like to note that during the summit held on January 11, special attention was paid to establishing economic ties, unblocking communications, and developing infrastructure. A separate statement was adopted on this matter. As a result of the meeting in Moscow, it was decided to create a working group co-chaired by the Deputy Prime Ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. This group is expected to start its work by the end of this month. By March 1, it is required to present a list of measures and a timeline for the restoration and construction of transport infrastructure intended for international transport.

It is planned to create specialized subgroups focusing on key areas of work, which will address all issues, including the ones you mentioned. There is no doubt that the implementation of the mentioned projects will serve the interests of Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the entire South Caucasus region. The interests of all countries will be taken into account. In particular, Armenia will have rail connections with Russia and Iran through Azerbaijani territory, while transport communications will connect Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan through Armenian territory."
