Gugark Police Uncover Illegal Logging Incidents
The officers of the Gugark Division of the RA Police have uncovered a number of illegal logging incidents on January 12 and 13, as reported by the Public Relations and Media Department of the RA Police.
On January 12, at around 16:30, a report was received at the Tavush Division of the police that a vehicle with the brand "UAZ" loaded with wood material was attempting to escape from the territory of the "Ardzvaberd" forestry "Navuri" forestry unit. The officers from the Tavush and Ijevan divisions of the police carried out joint measures, and the same day discovered the "UAZ" vehicle loaded with wood material belonging to a 31-year-old resident of Blbulyan Street in Ijevan. The vehicle was transported to the Tavush Division of the police.
It turned out that the 31-year-old driver had illegally felled trees in the "Hamza" area. A professional examination has been appointed, and the extent of the damage is being determined.
Hours later, while conducting a check at the "Hamza" area in collaboration with employees of the "Ardzvaberd" forestry, the Tavush Division officers noticed a "GAZ-66" vehicle belonging to a 41-year-old resident of Ijevan, which had 5 cubic meters of wood material spilled not far from it. The driver of the truck did not present any documents confirming the legality of the firewood and reported that he had illegally felled trees from the specified area. The wood material has been handed over to the employees of the "Ardzvaberd" forestry. The truck has been moved to a specially secured area of the division. Circumstances are being clarified, and materials are being prepared.
The suspect or accused of the alleged crime is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the established procedure of the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a legally binding court judgment.
