Video: Today I Held a Consultation Regarding Issues in the Syunik Province, Says the Prime Minister

During a consultation held today with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the situation regarding changes in the border environment of the Syunik province and the measures being taken to ensure security were discussed.

Opening the meeting, Prime Minister Pashinyan stated: “Dear colleagues, today’s consultation is dedicated to the issues of the Syunik province, and we should discuss a broad range of questions. Due to known events, the border environment of Syunik has undergone significant changes, and today we need to review the measures being implemented to ensure the security of the Republic of Armenia in the Syunik segment, examine the work done so far, and how we will continue with these efforts and in what direction. Of course, socio-economic, communication problems are very important, as well as environmental issues, and we have a wide range of questions to discuss.

I have often had the opportunity to say that I consider Syunik to be the backbone of our statehood, and we must take all necessary measures to ensure the security of the Republic of Armenia not only in Syunik but throughout the entire territory of the republic, with Syunik having a particularly significant importance in this regard. We also need to discuss what social and economic programs we will implement in those communities that have received a new border status—essentially finding themselves in the status of border settlements. And today we will make decisions, reach agreements, and also agree on the further implementation of these processes.”

The Prime Minister was briefed on the ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of border communities and roads in Syunik, the ongoing work to locate border points, the process of compensating citizens for potential property damage, and other related issues. Current results were recorded, possible solutions to existing problems were discussed, and further actions regarding the improvement of road and communication infrastructures, the resolution of socio-economic issues, and other directions were outlined.

Prime Minister Pashinyan instructed the responsible bodies involved in the process to continue the already undertaken measures, as well as the work on cataloging and resolving problems within the framework of the inter-agency working group, which will promptly document the issues and provide solutions.
